Sushi?

Watching tv last night, Doug and I saw a commercial for the new Passat. Two men are driving in a desolate area and stop at the only roadside building, which turns out to be a sushi place. They get back in the car and load the prized sushi into the glove compartment, hitting the road again. A voiceover touts the new glovebox cooling feature in the new Passats.

Several seconds of silence passed between us. I finally broke down and asked, "Am I missing something? Why in the world would that be a desirable feature?" Doug seemed relieved by my confusion, as he was likewise racking his brain for a decent use for a cooled glove compartment. After some discussion, our best guesses including keeping a soda cool or preventing a candy bar from melting. However, we also assumed that the cooling feature only works when the car is running, mitigating some of the benefits we tried so hard to brainstorm. Do people even have room to store cooled items with all the owner's manuals, registration, forms and obligatory stash of fast-food napkins already cramping the compartment?

Or, maybe Passat users eat a lot of sushi and like it really cold. Who knows.
