Reading

In between adventure days on the honeymoon, I had lots of reading time and made it through five books. I highly recommend three of them:

I Know This Much Is True, Wally Lamb
Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen
Into Thin Air, Jon Krakauer

The first book makes me want to read the author's other well-known work, She's Come Undone, and the last book has convinced me that I need to climb a mountain within the next year (although I'm not crazy enough to attempt anything nearly as high as Everest!).

I second all of Cecilly's recommendations, as well as Wally Lamb's other works.

Just curious - what were the two books you read that you don't recommend? Don't want to waste my time with them...

On another book note, did you ever read the Son of a Witch? I know how much you loved Wicked, and the Ugly Stepsister, but I hadn't heard that you had read this one yet (and I just saw it at the bookstore the other day). By the way, I hear the Wicked show is amazing...

Do you or Doug have any good "male" reads? Brad's looking for something to tempt him back into reading and he hasn't enjoyed my recommendations - the Road and Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime (both of which I loved).

I know where you can find some decent fourteeners to climb...

One was The Accidental. Not awful, but I'm on the fence about recommending it. The other was some random shallow chick lit that I picked up at the 'library' at the resort...I was getting desperate at the end of my trip bc I was out of books :0)

Doug really enjoyed a book by Robert Ludlum, the author of the Bourne Identity series, but I'm not sure which one. One of his, The Prometheus Deception, was an entertaining book on tape.

And, yes, we're eyeing Colorado for some fourteeners!

I LOVED 'Water for Elephants'. Super enjoyable. I've been recommending it all over the place.

I'm surprised a man wouldn't want to read 'The Road'. It's not at all a girly book but it is easily the most dire books I've read in a very long time.

Gareth always loves Ian McEwan's novels. I've read 'Atonement' (and loved it) but I think 'Enduring Love' is supposed to be his best.

What about 'The Kite Runner'?

Wicked (the show) is wicked but isn't anything like the book -- thank heavens. :)

Hey, I liked Wicked the book. And I'd love to see the show, but I think it's sold out.

And, no, I haven't read Son of a Witch, but now it's on my list!

Well, if you ever come visit in London, we'll go to see Wicked in the West End. :)
