Thumbs down

An accidentally slammed heavy front door was no match for little August's hand, and we found ourselves racing to the ER yet again. It was a long night of pain medicine, x-rays and surgery to save the top of August's right thumb. I held him as he went under, and then I was amazed that the team allowed me to continue holding him during the 1 1/2 hour procedure when I had assumed we would be asked to leave. Doug snapped this photo around 3am when we were all set to head home, A's hand safely secured in a cast that weighed about as much as him. The doctors have high hopes that he'll make a full recovery, and that things may return to normal in about 5 months. In the meantime, it appears the boys have learned a lesson about slamming doors.
